About

Welcome to Susan’s Natural World’s website, the next best thing to visiting our beautiful location at 8315 Beechmont Avenue in Anderson Township. Our store began in the 1960’s, when Jean and Tom Thomas opened Thomas’ Health Foods, after which it went through another owner, before being purchased by Susan Parker, who helped to solidify its connection to the community through her knowledge and compassion. Susan sold her business, upon retiring after 28 years, to her nephew Matt Johnson, who also has the love and passion for the natural way of living. It was very important to Susan not to sell it to just anyone. She wanted the new owner to continue to serve the community as she had. She knew she had that person in Matt. He has worked in the industry since 2004 and has a true desire to help others live a good, clean, healthy life. Matt and his family live on a wonderful farm in Northern Kentucky where they raise chickens, horses and “beautiful daughters.” Matt, his wife, Mandi, his mother, Peggy (the manager here for over 25 years), his daughter, Maliah, and his niece, Lexi, all work here, along with our other wonderful employees. It is a family-owned and operated business in the truest sense of the word.

Meet our Team

Matt

Hi! My name is Matt. And I am a recovering “knucklehead”. One day at a time… (AKA Mike, Mark, Max, the bald guy, the short guy, the guy in the back, the nephew, the husband, the dad, the uncle, and probably some other names I can’t write out here). I love sports. Bengals season ticket holder by the way. WHODEY! I love watching my daughters compete in whatever it is that day. They do a lot! And I love the career that I have chosen. Or maybe it chose me… I am the owner now despite some people’s surprise when I say that. I bought the store from my amazing Aunt Susan in July of 2017. (Oh yeah, since I own “Susan’s” Natural World I’ve been called the boy named Sue as well. LOL Shot out to Coach Elkin hipping me to that song as a youngster. RIP Johnny Cash) Anyway Aunt Sue owned this business for most of my lifetime, with my awesome mom, Peggy, right by her side helping her out along the way. So, I obviously spent some time here growing up. I loved the store and the feeling it gave me and the people that would come in. I’ll never forget that. People always left with a smile and were so appreciative of the service and knowledge that was provided. We strive to carry on that tradition to this day. This is a very special industry we’re blessed to be a part of, and I feel lucky to have grown and succeeded in being successful and giving my family a better life because of it. My outlook on life and position within it wasn’t always the best. Those who understand that, you already know. I actually started working in this store as a young man in my early to mid-20’s. I fell in love with helping people. Genuinely. It was good for my soul. Good for my, much needed, good karma. Even on a bad day it would only take a minute of helping a “little old lady” (my favorite customers by the way, RIP Hazel) to change my mood and put things in perspective. It helped me grow as a man so much. It solidified my already hard lessons learned of keeping things positive. Counting your blessings. And never taking for granted what someone else is going through. After a few years I ended up leaving this store and going to work for a gentleman named Tony Hause. He owned 2 stores in the Dayton area and 1 in Florence. Close to my home. I was the manager of that store for just about 10 years and Tony trusted me a lot after a short period of time, so I ran it and loved it like my own. I learned a lot from him, and we remain like family to this day. I was very torn to leave that store and those customers when I was given the opportunity to buy the Natural World but couldn’t pass this up. So here I am. Health Food Store owner. A father of 4 amazing daughters. (#girldad RIP KOBE) A son to some awesome parents who have always supported me despite the knuckle headedness (understatement). A husband to a wife I don’t deserve (even bigger understatement). And hopefully a good brother and good friend to the people who remain in my circle. Life is funny. You never know what’s coming. All we can do is show love and be prepared for the hills and valleys. At least that’s how I see it. So, for now and for as long as I can I’m going to be here trying to help people and trying to teach my daughters to do the same. “BE PROACTIVE WITH YOUR HEALTH”

Mandi

Hi, I’m Mandi! I began working here at SNW in November 2017. Prior to joining the family business I worked in Early Childhood for nearly 20 years. I have a passion for helping people and learning alternative ways of living. I did not grow up in the natural health industry as my husband, Matt did. I am very thankful that I had Peggy in my life to introduce me to quality prenatal vitamins and fish oil when I became pregnant with Maliah. Since then, I have continued to make lifestyle changes to enhance the health of my family. Another passion I have is gardening. We grow all organic fruits and vegetables on our farm and it never ceases to excite me! It is my goal to be able to grow all of the produce for our family and our store. My daily go-to products are multivitamin, fish oil, probiotic, magnesium and ubiquinol. In the past I struggled with high blood pressure and used black seed oil and celery seed extract in addition to the other supplements I mentioned. I use CBD oil and Curamin when needed for pain and inflammation. I believe our store is a blessing for our family and the community we serve. We provide a place for healthy meals, clean foods, high quality supplements, and products for your mind, body, and soul.

Peggy

Hi, I’m Peggy Johnson and I’ve been the manager here at Susan’s Natural World for over 27 years.  I’ve been honored to be a part of this amazing industry and to serve our community in the most positive way possible.  I’ve been so fortunate to work for most of that time with my cousin and best friend, Susan Parker.  I was thrilled when my son and daughter (in-law), Matt & Mandi, were able to buy the business from Susan upon her retirement in order to keep it in the family and to continue the good work SNW has been known for over the past 30 years.  Here at SNW we have always operated from the point of view of doing our best for our customers and, in doing so, the business would come along. We’ve made a lot of friends along the way and we’ve helped many people “be proactive with their health.”  We hope we can add you to that list.  We are truly blessed!

Maliah

Hi! My name is Maliah Johnson and I am Matt & Mandi’s oldest daughter.  I am 21 years old and finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Communications at NKU.  Go Norse!  I enjoy riding horses and spend most of my time outside of work training horses and barrel racing.  I have a red heeler pup that is the center of my world and does a lot of product testing for our store! He loves the Taste of the Wild dog food and is a huge supporter of the bully sticks! I have worked in this industry since I was 13 years old.  I one day hope to have a store of my own or be partners with my parents in another store.  I enjoy working in this field because I believe in making people feel their best in the right way.  I enjoy bonding with customers and learning about their lives and what works best for them.  My favorite supplement in the store is Natural Factors GABA.  I have used this for a couple of years for stress and anxiety and it is amazing!  I am the Cafe Manager here at SNW and I really enjoy creating yummy drinks and healthy lunches.  Our Cafe offers all organic smoothies and juices along with many different vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian options.  I look forward to meeting you and helping you in every way to stay proactive with your health!
